I had tasted with Hannah several times before discovering that in addition to being a writer, a scientist, a stellar reservationist and the reason why I take New York wines seriously—oh, and she’s also a joy to be around—girlfriend is also a talented artist. I saw her flows and said, “Let’s make a wine label!”
Just days before, I played in winemaker Josh Klapper’s bodega to help select the barrels that would create the one-and-only Moishe Mayer’s first Santa Barbara Pinot Noir, in charge of bringing it all to life.
With my basic brief of asking for Nickle & Nickle meets my tattoo while being 100% Hannah, imagine the thrill of receiving this as the first and only draft for one of my recent stars.
A star from stars aligning to create the perfect pairing: Klapper’s wine meets Moishe’s passion before colliding with my palate, vision and confidence in Hannah’s ability to bring it all to life while my trusty Miguel took all the pieces and laid out our final label.
It takes a village, starting with the real stars: those working day in and day out amidst the vines. And also those keeping the cellar clean, doing all the meticulous work necessary to create wines worth remembering…
